Ponniyin Selvan Is Set To Break All Records Of Collection
Ponniyin Selvan, a historical drama directed by Mani Ratnam, has been playing in theatres for a week, yet even at this point, it can be difficult to find movie tickets in some areas. There is still a high demand for PS-I movie tickets, therefore the movie's digital release may take place the following month.
The OTT rights of PS-I are held by Amazon Prime Video, and the film is anticipated to be streamable beginning November 4, 2022. But we're still awaiting an official declaration on the matter.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, and Chiyaan's Vikram all play key roles, PS-I features music by AR Rahman and is set in the Chola era in the tenth century. The film is based on a well-known Tamil short story by Kalki Krishnamurthy, who in turn drew inspiration from Raja Raja Chola I and his family's actual historical experiences that how two Chola princes who are heirs to the monarchy deal with both an external threat to their life and an inside attempt to overthrow the crown. PS-I has a 2-hour and 47-minute running length and will likely be made available on OTT in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
In Tamil Nadu, PS 1 has already broken the records of the lifetime earnings of Baahubali 2 (Rs. 155 crores) on its ninth day, and today, when it is on its tenth day, there is a good chance that it will beat Vikram, the current record-holder. Vikram had to last for 5 years to knock Baahubali 2 off the leading place at the Tamil Nadu box office, but PS 1 was able to overthrow Vikram in just 3 months.
It has surpassed the Rs 325 crore mark internationally after eight days of release, according to a report in India Today that cited trade expert Trinath. The multi-starrer has also achieved a few significant feats at the foreign box office. The movie's budget has been questioned; some believe that the initial $500 million sum was divided into two sections.
After Shankar's 2.0, it is now the second Tamil movie in history to earn more than $5 million (Rs 41 crore) at the US box office. Additionally, it is the first Tamil movie to gross over $1.5 million in Australia and over £1 million in the UK. The Hindi translation of the film has made around Rs 14 crore so far and is predicted to finalize its run with roughly Rs 20 crore.
