In the third installment of Bhool Bhulaiyaa, there is not only a horror comedy caper that is Integration of Social Issues: A Comical Terror Drama Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Though Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is a franchise of horror comedy movies, it does not lack a message on acceptance of a person’s identity. A legend of the haunted palace set in the fascinating, oddly Gothic town of Rakht Ghat, West Bengal, the doomed palace of the film introduces Rooh Baba or Ruhaan, who, through a series of enticements of gaining wealth, fame and a ready-made congregation, gets lured into the world of the supernaturals. It is not long, however, before this story turns into far more than what Ruhaan signed up for – a social experiment regarding gender politics and a person’s journey toward acceptance.
Ruhaan’s Journey to Rakht Ghat
Rooh Baba is primarily a Criminal Mind who uses black magic to make people achieve their respective goals by cheating on their family members. But when he is invited to Rakht Ghat things are taken up a notch. The royal family feels that Ruhaan is maybe their dead ancestor spirit, Prince Debendra Nath, and the spirit of Manjulika roaming around getting her revenge. According to the myth, he is to eliminate the spirit menacing the village on the night of Durga Ashtami. The more Ruhaan searches the palace, he learns that solving mysteries here and getting well paid out of it, is much more than just solving mysteries for money.

The Real Curse of Manjulika

Through a series of eerie events, Ruhaan and the family unearth the shocking truth: it is not just Manjulika’s vengeful spirit but the spirit of unresolved pain in humans. Two royal sisters—Manjulika and Anjulika—had conspired against their younger half-brother Debendra a man who had a desperate desire to be a woman in freely. Living under those expectations of royalty and masculinity, Debendra could only find comfort in dancing, a forbidden pastime he did with his sisters. The latter was in the hands of his two sinister sisters, who exposed him by divulging his secret and thereafter murdered him. He was burned, and a curse was put upon him that would cause his sisters to be reborn again and again without a chance at rest until they made amends for their actions.

A Final Act of Redemption
Finally, a dramatic scene comes that requires Ruhaan to recognize the real Manjulika. The forlorn-looking Dipali, to be replaced by Mandira, and the punk-looking Malika, who seemed very much familiar as a woman of the modern world, are the sisters who are destined to fight the spirit of Debendra for the fourth time. The movie ends up with the sisters pleading for mercy adding that the betrayal that killed Debendra was justifiable. Taking this apology, the spirit is satisfied at last and releases the curse which has been going in circles in the palace.

Why Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Stands Out?
In its ending, the film gives an important statement about differences between gender and expectations, and what may happen if someone does not match those expectations. Despite painting Debendra’s example of ostracism by his family members as a rallying narrative for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, the movie is notably supportive of the trans rights cause and inclusive of the need for acceptance. Using horror-comedy and an excellent storyline, the film adds to simple entertainment and gives the viewer a memorable message about acceptance of oneself.
