CHRISTOPHER NOLAN has finalised the principal cast of his next film 'OPPENHEIMER' which will include - CILLIAN MURPHY, EMILY BLUNT, MATT DAMON and ROBERT DOWNEY JR along with FLORENCE PUGH, RAMI MALEK and BENNY SAFDIE playing the leading roles in this biopic on Father of Atomic Bomb - J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER.
Based on KAI BIRD's and Late MARWIN J SHERWIN's Pulitzer winning book 'AMERICAN PROMETHEUS - THE TRIUMPH AND TRAGEDY OF J. ROBERT OPPENHEIMER', the film will be led by Cillian Murphy playing the titular role of J ROBERT OPPENHEIMER - a theoretical physicist who helped develop the atomic bomb during World War II and Emily Blunt will play his wife KATHERINE OPPENHEMIER. Matt Damon will play the role of LT GEN LESLIE GROVES, who served as the DIRECTOR of THE MANHATTAN PROJECT while Robert Downey Jr will play LEWIS STRAUSS, the infamous CHAIRMAN of the ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION who initiated hearings that questioned Oppenheimer’s loyalty to the United States and famously had the scientist’s security clearance revoked.
Florence Pugh will play JEAN TATLOCK, a MEMBER of COMMUNIST PARTY of the United States who has an off-and-on affair with Oppenheimer and was the cause of major security concerns for government officials. Rami Malek will play the role of a SCIENTIST who worked with Oppenheimer in developing the atomic bomb, while Benny Safdie will play will play EDWARD TELLER, the Hungarian physicist who is known as the FATHER OF THE HYDROGEN BOMB and a MEMBER of the MANHATTAN PROJECT, the U.S. research initiative that developed the first atomic bomb.
Universal Pictures, who are co-producing this film with CHRISTOPHER NOLAN (Writer - director) and his wife EMMA THOMAS (Producer), has called the movie an “epic thriller that thrusts audiences into the pulse-pounding paradox of the enigmatic man who must risk destroying the world in order to save it.” The film is scheduled to release on 21st JULY, 2023 with its first schedule to be shot in NEW MEXICO in this month.
