Even though he was 'attracted' to Madhubala, Dilip Kumar was unable to marry her

In 1969, Madhubala, one of Bollywood's most glamorous actresses, passed. The diva's life was just as tragic as her appearance on the big screen. In 1960, at the age of 27, she married Kishore Kumar. She accepted Kishore Kumar's marriage proposal after realising that Dilip Kumar was not going to marry her.

Dilip Kumar revealed in his autobiography that he was attracted to Madhubala, and the late actress' sister Zahida aka Madhur Bhushan claimed that the court case during the making of Naya Daur, as well as their egos, were deal breakers, despite the fact that Madhubala was in love with Dilip. The actor revealed details about his relationship with Madhubala in his autobiography, Dilip Kumar: The Substance And The Shadow.

"I must admit that I was drawn to her (Madhubala) as a fine co-star as well as a person who possessed some of the qualities I hoped to find in a woman of that age and time... She was, as I previously stated, very vivacious and sprightly, and as such, she could effortlessly draw me out of my shyness and reticence "He put pen to paper.

The pair's pairing in K Asif's Mughal-E-Azam had made headlines, and their chemistry had been praised. The director was also aware of their affection for one another. Madhubala, in fact, told him about her feelings for Dilip Kumar.

However, things took a turn for the worse when Madhubala's father attempted to turn the marriage proposal into a business venture, as Kumar recalled. That irritated him. In fact, the feather scene in the film, which is considered to be quite sensual, was shot when the couple wasn't even talking to each other.

"As a result, we weren't even talking to each other halfway through the production of 'Mughal-e-Azam.' The iconic scene with the feather coming between our lips, which sparked a million imaginations, was shot after we had stopped even greeting each other "He put pen to paper.
