The Ambanis: India’s Modern-Day Royals

The Ambanis have cemented their status as India’s new-age royalty, melding cultural values, influence and a legacy of achievement that puts even the most traditional aristocracy to shame. If there ever was a global family of immense wealth that gained from their ability to sit on the top of the food chain, it is the Ambanis — a family pocketing both prosperity and power in their family tree.

From their large multipronged charitable endeavors and extravagant bashes to the much-anticipated opening of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC), they have served a platter of feast and fam on a scale that is nothing short of spectacular.

Ambani: The Legacy: Building the Future

Central to the Ambani legacy is the late Dhirubhai Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). Known for his entrepreneurial brilliance, Dhirubhai laid the foundation for the family’s business empire. His journey, which began in Gujarat, showcased his extraordinary business acumen from an early age. Whether it was selling oil or fritters as a teenager, his leadership qualities and vision stood out.

Dhirubhai married Kokilaben Ambani in 1955, and the couple had four children—Mukesh, Anil, Nina, and Deepti. Following a stroke in 1996, Dhirubhai began transitioning the leadership of Reliance Industries to his sons. After his passing in 2002, Mukesh and Anil Ambani continued his legacy, propelling the business to new heights.
