Priyanka Chopra And Saba Azad Dazzled In Designer Amit Aggarwal's Creations For The Launch Of The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre.

Priyanka Chopra and Saba Azad both donned designer Amit Aggarwal's creations for the evening on the second day of the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre's opening. Saba wore a custom-made saree-gown on the event's pink carpet, while Priyanka wore a beautiful Banarasi Brocade saree that was 60 years old.

Amit Aggarwal custom-made this saree-gown for Saba Azad on the second day of NMACC, a tribute to the intricacy of Indian workmanship and fabrics but with a modern twist. It combines two fabrics: an antique banarasi brocade with gold threads and a structural body.

 

The bustier is pleated with the brand's characteristic material and structured along the breast to shape the body. This moulding also extends to the sleeves. But, it is the Banarasi draping method that blurs the boundary between a saree and a gown.

Amit Aggarwal created Priyanka's custom ensemble by combining a 60-year-old vintage Banarasi Brocade Saree made with silver threads and gold electroplating on khadi silk, draped over and structured with a jewel toned moulded body made of unique crafted material, and paired with a signature sequins sheet holographic bustier.

 

The holographic bustier adapts classic techniques for the modern gaze by twisting the coloured yarn over which a thin silver wire (lametta) and a flattened wire (badla) were wound—in turn extensively braided with golden thread. The brocade was put atop an ikat weave, which served as the foundation for the bustier, which was made with Amit's characteristic sequin sheets in holographic hues to reflect the ikat's nine colours. The historic textile was handmade in Varanasi's craft clusters over the course of six months.
