Annam is a new Tamil television series that premiered on December 2 2024 and will explore the journey of Annalakshi alias “Annam”, a courageous and steadfast young lady who is committed and supportive of others throughout the various obstacles life presents. She will have high aspirations to accomplish, although there are family issues involved that will pose many hardships along the way. The series will be produced under the umbrella of Sun Entertainment & Ayya Movie Makers and written by R Kumaran, and directed by Ramakrishnan & Sajin C will assist with the editing of the show.

The main character is played by Abi Natchatra, who plays Annalakshmi “Annam”, a caring village girl who has had a strained relationship with her father and stepmother and is trying hard to protect her dignity and create a loving bond in this life. This is Abi’s first major acting role in a Tamil television series, having previously acted only in web series.

The character of Karthikeyan Shanmugam, usually called Karthik, is Annam’s love interest and plays many key emotional storyline. His most often featured character in the story is played by Bharat Kumar.

In addition to Annam and Karthika, the show has an impressive list of talent in the supporting cast, adding to the complexities of the relationships within the family, community and village. One of the featured supporting actors is Priyanka Shivanna. Initially, she was cast to play the role of Ramya, but has now stepped down to take over for Divya Ganesan.

Saravanan "Saravana" Shanmugam (Ashwin Karthik), Shenbagam's oldest son, adds to the growing family dynamics and conflicts surrounding their extended family, while Mani Moorthy "manni" Naidu (Bharatha Naidu) provides another dimension. There are also two core actors who have an important role in continuing the dynamic of Saravanan, Shenbagam, and Mani. They are: Mahanadhi Shankar, who portrays Saamydurai "Saamy", a village elder whose presence carries weight in the decision-making process, and Saivam Ravi as Chellakili, both adding to the numerous plot twists and turns.

There are more than one special guest appearance on Annam who help to enhance the storyline. Maanya Anand is an episodic guest as Kanmani, while Y. G. Mahendran is portrayed as the important character of Sakthivel Kalingarayar, who works in tandem with the previous two characters to advance the narrative. Additional actors featuring as special guest appearances include Sekar Raja (Duraisingam), GV Krishna (Dinesh), and TSR Srinivasan (Aarumugam), all of whom are presented in various subplots. Actress Ineya also appears as herself in various episodes of the show, further enhancing the viewers' interest.

Creatively, the team that has developed Annam has created an overall story arc that stitches together the values of traditional family structures within a dramatic framework that allows the audience to relate to the character's struggles and to enjoy the storytelling and drama.
