Nothing like binge-watching a fantastic adult series with your significant other on a date. But how does one pick the best adult series out of the sea of available options? Simple. You let us handle the sorting.
1. SEX/LIFE - Netflix
There is only one actual, redeeming aspect that this adult series has; the sex scenes. This is possibly the only list that this
Netflix original is likely to make the cut on. There's little to no character development, one weak storyline after another, flimsy, time-filling plot lines that make no sense, and even some problematic propaganda masquerading as feminism. It's quite easy to get a sex scene wrong, and even more difficult to get it perfectly. And, while the moments on this show are obviously more wish-fulfillment than the realism of something like Insecure or Girls, they're nonetheless really hot; hot enough to make the entire episode worth watching.
2. The Affair - Amazon Prime
This Showtime original has always flown under the radar, winning multiple honours but not necessarily attracting a large fan following. It's a shame, because it contains some of the sharpest writing ever seen on mainstream television. The Affair tells the story of Noah and Allison from each of their perspectives, using a narrative format divided into two (and later, four). It's a master class in subtle writing that demonstrates how much a point of view can influence how we remember an experience. Plus, the situation and the sex are incredibly hot; the perfect combination of well-written and great actors capable of creating phenomenal on-screen passion.
3. Normal People - Apple TV
Sally Rooney's acclaimed novel is being adapted into an even better mini-series (come, fight me) starring Paul Mescal and Daisy Edgar Jones. The story of the strange girl and the popular lad from a tiny town in Ireland and how their lives unfold is more erotic than sexual, especially since the two characters never discover true passion with anyone other than each other. This adult series features a lot of sex--some of it quite kinky, thanks to Edgar Jones' character--but the sex between Connell and Marianne is the most intriguing; sensual and intimate in a way that sex on TV rarely is.
4. Tell Me Lies - Hotstar
First and foremost, this Hulu Original is arguably one of the year's best-written and most enjoyable thrillers. Sex Life is a master class in building flawed, irritating, and downright vile people that ooze sex appeal and charm. It generates suspense and tension just as well as sexual tension between its tangled web of individuals. You are pulled to the programme for a variety of reasons, including the script, the well-crafted tension, the aesthetic, and, of course, the cast of stunning people; yet the sex remains the show's backbone.
5. Valeria - Netflix
The narrative of an aspiring writer slash (kind of) stuck housewife and her three closest friends as they navigate sex and dating in Madrid may not appear to be particularly sexual at first. Enter an extraordinarily hot dude that our protagonist
Valeria simply cannot resist, and you've got yourself a heated little binge feast. The show's sex scenes are scorching and well-executed, but one thing it excels at is creating and building on sexual tension. There are numerous instances when the anticipation and it is likely to put you and your companion in a good mood.
