Traditional Dress of Manipur: A Blend of Elegance and Heritage
Manipur, being one of the culturally rich states of northeast India, is well-known for its exquisite and delicate way of traditional dressing. Manipuri men and women put on attire that is well-applied to artistry, simple in its working, and high on aesthetic appeal. These types of clothes are products of tradition and still speak of the state's value for tradition, comfort, or style.

Women's Traditional Clothing

1. Mayek Naibi

Quite a symbolic creation, Mayek Naibi consists of a phanek or wrap-around skirt, having elaborately woven borders that are nearly always in contrasting colors, put by the Manipuri weavers with pride connecting to their own form of creativity. It is still one of the most iconic female attires in the state.

2. Potloi

Potloi is a lovely bell-shaped skirt used in Manipuri dance form called Ras Lila. This gown from 1700's decorated with sequins, beads, mirrors in bright red, pink, and green colors speaks volumes of cultural elegance.

3. Phanek
Considered a wardrobe staple by the Manipuri woman, the Phanek is an intricately hand woven, sarong-like skirt fashioned out of cotton or silk. It is modest and non-transparent and is usually worn with a blouse and chirol for the comfort of the hot weather conditions.

4. Inaphi

It is a light shawl spread across the upper body. It has floral and nature motifs woven on them either on cotton or silk, adding charm and grace to the wearer, hence creating a sort of relationship between the wearer and nature.

5. Kunjim
This is a simple and elegant top from traditional times paired with a Phanek. This airy outfit is a perfect blend of traditional detailing and modern-day comfort.

6. Chin-Phi and Lai-Phi
The pair is usually worn on occasions and consists of Chin-Phi, a multicolored blouse, and Lai-Phi, a white shawl with yellow borders. They are traditionally embroidered and bear the folk symbols.

Men’s Traditional Attire
1. Dhoti, Kurta, and Pagri

Manipuri men traditionally wear a white dhoti with a plain kurta, complemented by a pagri (turban) symbolizing dignity and respect. This attire is common at religious and cultural gatherings.

2. Bishnupriya Manipuri Clothing
Women of this community wear a Rigum (skirt) and Risa (shawl) with vibrant designs, while men don outfits similar to the Meitei Manipuri group, reflecting cultural unity.
