Brown Sugar VS Jaggery - Which One is the Healthier Choice?
'Sugar isn't good for health.' You might have heard, read or come through this line many times. Right? It's true that white sugar isn't healthy so we always go for the substitute of sugar. Today, we will be talking about two of such substitutes of sugar, jaggery and brown sugar and which one is better. Both are similar in colour and taste but there are a few differences which make them special. Brown sugar is better than white sugar and jaggery is better than brown sugar. This might be a bit confusing so let us get to the differences of the ingredients.
Jaggery is an unrefined sugar which is made without spinning it in a centrifuge, on the other habd, brown sugar is a refined source of sweetness which involves cetrifuging. Brown sugar isn't vegan as it involves charcoal treatment as a part of refinement. Jaggery comes naturally from sugarcane or palm sap. Brown sugar is the sugar crystals and molasses which are found in sugarcane. Jaggery isn't easily available and is expensive compared to brown sugar.
We now definately know, jaggery is healthier. Many fitness freaks and influencers use jaggery as a substitute for white sugar. It might not be as sweet as white or brown sugar but it's healthier. There is a lot of hardwork with jaggery to be added in the meals as it comes in solid form and we need to break it or blend it.
