Five Indian Sports Betting Markets

sports betting

When considering the major population of India and the gigantic landmass, there’s going to be a wealth of sports taking place both in the country and athletes from the nation. We review five of the most interesting sports betting markets involving either Indian teams or Indian players for you to bet on.

1. Anshul Jubli – India’s Fighting Spirit

While Indian MMA could lay claim to Arjan Bhullar before, he was born in Canada despite having ancestry from India. Now however, India has a top fighter who was born in Uttarkashi, the King of Lions, Anshul Jubli, who is fighting at the top level of mixed martial arts in the UFC lightweight division.

In February 2023, he made his (uncontracted) UFC television debut as he defeated Jeka Saragih on a Fight Night, winning the Road to UFC Lightweight tournament, stopping his opponent, and earning the Performance of the Night award. Jubli is reported to have a good working relationship with UFC owner, Dana White and wants to get on the main cards soon. Betting on this fighter’s prospective fights will certainly be an interesting affair as he hasn’t shied away from a fight having recently called out Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Keep an eye out for his next fight and if he’s an underdog, given Jubli is 7-0 in his MMA career, he could overcome the odds, again.

2. Futures for the 2023-24 Indian Super League

The Indian Super League might not be as flashy as the Saudi Arabian league right now but it’s still a very competitive league with some well-supported teams. Any sports book worth its salt with have offered some future prediction bets on the winning team for the Indian Super League title. ATK Mohun Bagan won the playoff grand final to claim their first-ever title, while the City group’s Mumbai City topped the table to earn the League Winners Shield.

Can you ever exclude the passionate Bengaluru FC from Bangalore from title contention? Having just signed the experienced and former Chennaiyin defender, Slavko Damjanović, the team could challenge for silverware. All of which will offer decent value in a pre-season bet if you wanted to make offshore bets on these sportsbooks.

3. Jaskaran Singh and Praveen Kumar w/ Mississauga Panthers

The Global T20 Canada cricket competition is finally being revived after the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the event for multiple years. However, in 2023 the event is back and one of the new teams, the Mississauga Panthers boast two Indian players.

Jaskaran Singh and Praveen Kumar have varying levels of experience, with Kumar having played test cricket for India back in 2011. Both however have played a lot of T20 cricket, extensively playing in the Indian Premier League. Can they help this new Canadian team to glory in their first-ever season?

Betting on them to win the tournament might be a tall order but will provide good value should they do it. All the teams are relatively new so there’s no particular experience factor in the league. The Panthers however boast the character, Lance Klusener. The South African cricket icon has had plenty of prior roles having coached T20 sides in the Indian Premier League, and even the head coach of the Sri Lankan national team. Could he get the best out of the Indian players and the entire roster?

4. Rohan Bopanna in the Doubles

Rohan Bopanna has been one of those names which seem to have been around forever. Well, he’s been on the professional tennis circuit for 20 years so chances are you’ve seen his name on the various draws. Now aged 43 the man from Bangalore isn’t showing any signs of giving up having made it to the third round of the Men’s Doubles with his partner, Matthew Ebden. Despite their combined age is well over 70, the two are a great value to bet on as they keep on winning and were ranked as the sixth-seed team going into the tournament.

There’s no reason to see why they won’t keep this up at all the future events including the 2023 US Open.

5. India to Keep Soccer Momentum in 2023

The Indian national football team has had a good 2023 by their standards. Normally consigned to defeats, India hasn’t lost a game so far throughout the annum and generally looks enthused to play under Igor Štimac.

The team is set to play in the King’s Cup against Thailand (host nation), Iraq, and Lebanon, all could realistically lose to India – with the latter doing so in the 2023 SAFF Championship semi-final. After that, they will contest the 2023 Medeka Tournament along with Malaysia (host nation), Palestine, and Lebanon again. All of the opposition teams could easily lose to India given there isn’t much of a gulf in quality. Opting for an Indian win in these matches could present a healthy little return.

Sunil Chhetri has scored over 90 goals for India during his tenured career with the national team. He’s also scored against all of the aforementioned opposition teams, excluding Iraq. Given he’s in good form for the Blue Tigers, having scored six goals at the recent 2023 SAFF Championship (finishing as the tournament top scorer) betting on him to score against these sides again or get his first against Iraq would be a really good bet.
