  1. Nayakan (1987): Nayakan released in 1987 is a Tamil epic-crime-based Film starring Kamal Haasan, Kartika, and Saranya as the leads. It was filmed for some time in Madaras and later in Mumbai. The story revolves around Velu Nayakan who witnessed the murder of his father. Later on, he kills a corrupt police cop and heads on to Mumbai to become a gangster. Here's where the storyline begins. This movie was so popular that it ran successfully in theaters at that time for about 175 days which was again impressive at that time.

  2. Thalapathi (1991): Released in 1991, it's an Indian Tamil-language-based gangster movie featuring Rajinikanth, Aravind Swamy, and Mammootty. The story revolves around Surya, a brave man raised in slums who keeps on fighting for the rights of the poor people. But later on, he develops a friendship with Deva who actually hires him as his commander and this drastically transforms his life.

  3. Sethu (1999): Released in 1999, Sethu is an Indian-Tamil romance-based movie starring Vikram and Abitha as the lead. Here, a violent college guy who's a student melts up his behavior when he finally falls in love with a shy and nervous Brahmin girl. Moreover, misfortune occurs when the guy undergoes critical brain trauma due to a serious fight. The movies'  fame won it several awards.

  4. Bombay (1995): A super hit romantic Tamil drama directed by Mani Ratnam. Here, the story revolves around a Muslim woman who falls in love with a Hindu man as an escape to get married as their parents have an objection over their marriage. However, due to the depiction of inter-caste relations, this movie was banned in countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

  5. Moondram Pirai (1982): It is a Tamil romantic drama produced by Sathya Jyothi Films. The movie features Kamal Haasan and the legendary Sridevi as the lead. The story showcases a young woman who suffers from a major head injury due to a car accident after which she starts behaving childishly. However, she's later trapped at a brothel, after which she gets an aspiration in a lonely school teacher who later on determines to protect her.

  6. Anbe Sivam (2003): Released in 2003, Anbe Sivan is an Indian-Tamil-based comedy-drama featuring Kamal Haasan, Kiran Rathod, and Madhavan as the lead. The story revolves around Anbarasu who goes on a business trip and gets deserted at the airport due to heavy rains. Moreover, his life takes a sharp turn where he meets Nallasivam, who's his co-passenger and they, later on, become friends.

  7. Thevar Magan (1992): Released in 1992, it is a Tamil-based film directed by Bharathan. The story revolves around Saktivelu who's educated in London. Later on, he returns to India with an ambition to open a chain of restaurants in Chennai; however, his father wishes that he would stay back for the betterment of the villagers. The simplicity of this movie is the X-factor that makes it popular and attracts many audiences.

  8. Iruvar (1997): Released in 1997, it is an epic-politics-based Tamil drama. The story revolves around a struggling actor, Anandan, who shares a great companionship with a writer who's part of a renowned political party. However, problems arose between them when the actor was selected to represent the party contesting elections. 

  9. Mouna Ragam (1986): Released in 1986, the movie stars Mohan and Revathi. Here, the lead actress is a college student who mourns the untimely death of his lover. However, due to undue family pressure, she has to marry someone else. But after marriage, she asks for a divorce as her wedding gift. The movie is a strange tale but quite modern for 1986.

  10. Pithamagan (2003): Released in 2003, Pithamagan is an action-based Tamil drama movie directed by Bala.  Here a cheater supports a social cast who's sentenced in a drug-peddling case in prison. A cheater befriends a social outcast sentenced in a drug-peddling case in jail.  However, when the two are released from imprisonment, they get trapped in a local drug mafia's brutal scheme. 

  11. Roja (1992): Released in 1992, it is an Indian-Tamil-based Romantic drama starring Madhoo and Arvind Swami. The story showcases a simple village girl Roja from Tamil Nadu. She constantly tries to make desperate efforts to relocate her husband after he gets kidnapped by militants during a secret undercover mission in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. 

  12. Thillu Mullu (1981): Released in 1981, it is a Tamil comedy directed by K. Balachander. The storyline showcases Chandran who lies to his boss that his mother is sick so that he could get leave, however, he later gets caught by the boss. But later on, to save his job and defend himself he pretends to his boss that he has a twin brother. 

  13. Vayathinile (1977): Released in 1977, it is a Tamil-based romantic drama. The story showcases Mayil, a sixteen-year-old who falls in love with a city-based doctor who tries to take her undue advantage. However, he leaves Mayil when she refuses to comply with him.   15. Paruthiveeran (2007): Released in 2007, it was directed by Ameer Sultan. The story revolves around a young man Paruthiveeran who saves Muththazhagu's (the lead actress) life and later on they fall in love with each other. However, due to inter-caste relations, their parents object to their union and thus the couple escapes to unite with each other.
