Bhuvneshwari Kumari: The Woman Who Stayed Put
Wife of a Cricketer, and Then Some
Ask most people who Bhuvneshwari Kumari is and you’ll hear “Sreesanth’s wife.” Fair enough, but it skips a lot. She comes from a Rajput family with royal ties to Jaipur and grew up in Alwar, Rajasthan. After school there, she moved to Delhi and finished her graduation at Delhi University.

One small warning: she shares her name with a retired Indian athlete. Different woman, different story, and the mix-up happens more often than you’d think.
Jewellery, Not Headlines
Her own work is jewellery design. Think classic, slightly regal pieces, the kind of thing that fits someone raised around old-world Rajasthani taste. She doesn’t talk about it much, though. There are no big interviews or flashy campaigns, and honestly, that’s probably the point. While cameras kept chasing her husband, she kept her career out of the noise.
A Wedding Under a Cloud
The couple had been together about six years when they married in December 2013. The timing was rough. Sreesanth had just been arrested in the IPL spot-fixing case and was out on bail, with the court case still unresolved. You’d expect a tense wedding. The photos tell a different story, and the two of them look relaxed and happy.
People talked, of course. Some wondered why she’d go ahead with it, and a few rumours of a split floated around at one point. Nothing came of them.
The Long Wait
Sreesanth was cleared by a Delhi court in July 2015, and the family celebrated. The cricket board still kept its ban in place, though, so he spent years stuck in limbo. Through all of it, Bhuvneshwari stayed out of the spotlight and kept things steady at home. The ban was eventually cut down and ran out in 2020, and in 2021 he was back in a Kerala jersey, playing domestic cricket again. Plenty of fans had stopped believing that would happen.
Home Life
Their daughter was born in 2015, and a son came along later. The couple tends to keep the kids away from the public eye, which is a choice worth respecting given how much attention their family has already had.
What Sticks
There’s nothing flashy about her story. She didn’t go chasing fame, and she didn’t disappear when things got ugly. She worked, raised a family, and waited it out. Sometimes that’s the more interesting kind of story.
