He gained infamy for his involvement in various murders, robberies, and gang-related activities across Punjab and other northern regions of India. Despite his criminal background, his life story has drawn widespread public attention, particularly after the release of a biopic based on his life.
Early Life and Background
Sukha Kahlon was born on June 21, 1987, in Kahlon, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Punjab. He belonged to a Jatt Sikh family, with his father, Sudarshan Singh, working abroad in business, while his mother, Harjinder Kaur, was a homemaker. Sukha was known for his rebellious nature from a young age.
He completed his basic education in a local school in Kapurthala but reportedly dropped out during his teenage years. Sukha was never interested in academics, but generally found himself taking part in street fights with his counterparts. As he grew older, his violent tendencies grew and landed him in the world of crime.
Criminal Activities and Gang Involvement
Sukha Kahlon was one of Punjab's paramount gangsters operating between 2000 and 2015, during which he was involved in killings, gang wars, armed robberies, extortions, et cetera. He was involved in over sixty criminal cases and was one of the most feared criminals in northern India.
The kicker was his extracurricular activity as a sharpshooter; he was so good that he was nicknamed "Sharp Shooter" because of his marksmanship. He partnered with various gangsters well known in the underworld:
Preet Phagwara
Sonu Kangla
Jaggu Bhagwanpuria
Anmol Bishnoi
Kali Shooter
Lawrence Bishnoi
Diljeet Bhana
His notoriety only grew with his vengeful acts, giving birth to power confrontations with rival gangs and law enforcement agencies.
Personal Life and Relationships
Sukha Kahlon had a girlfriend, married her on October 11, 2008, and divorced her after six years in December 2014. Some allege that he went on to date another woman named Lovely Baba, whom he supposedly killed in a gym, but these claims remain unverified.
Death and Aftermath
Sukha Kahlon was arrested in November 2012 in Howrah, West Bengal, and was detained in a high-security wing of a Punjab prison. However, he had many enemies within the criminal underworld who were waiting for an opportunity to eliminate him.
On January 20, 2015, when he was on his way to the court, a rival gang with the leadership of Vicky Gonder ambushed him and shot him to death. Over 100 reports suggested that bullets were fired at him to ensure his death. Shockingly, after killing him, the assassins celebrated his murder in brightly colored pants and sunglasses right in front of the police, further emphasizing the gang rivalry deeply ingrained in Punjab.
The "Shooter" biopic (2022)
Life events of Sukha Kahlon were depicted in the Punjabi movie "Shooter," which was scheduled to be released on February 21, 2020. However, the Punjab government banned the release because of the film's violent nature with a direction of glorifying crime. After several delays, the movie was finally released on January 14, 2022, reviving public interest in the story of Sukha.
Net Worth and Lifestyle
Sukha Kahlon lived a lavish lifestyle, often flaunting expensive cars, weapons, and branded clothing. He was financially well, mostly due to his involvement in extortion, robberies, and other illegal activities. His net worth was estimated to be around INR 2-3 crores at the time of his death.
Legacy and Public Perception
Although he was a criminal, Sukha Kahlon had a huge following on social media. His fearless image and gangster lifestyle became glorified by certain sections of the youth, especially in Punjab-Haryana. His story, in the view of some, is a cautionary tale showing the dangerous results of a life of crime.
Some would regard him as a fearless outlaw, while some others remember him as a cold-blooded criminal accountable for thousands of deaths. With his downing, ended a chapter of terror; his legacy will, however, remain as a topic of discussion.
