A newbie whose debut movie was a blockbuster success was considered to be one of the studio favorites & was inducted into the studio’s talent roster. Another newbie actress who too had a blockbuster debut was considered to be her rival. She has now been signed by the same studio as part of their talent management pool. While it makes business sense for the studio to get as many talented stars into its fold as possible, this has not gone down well with the other actress. The newbie who was recently signed up by the studio was reluctant to join the studio & was in fact about to join another talent agency. She was scared of being sidelined by the studio in favor of her rival – who has been with the studio for longer & whose BF too is part of the studio’s talent agency. The studio boss assured that she will get equal priority & will be offered plum projects.
Actors are an insecure lot. The fandom of the actress whose debut was bankrolled by the studio is having a meltdown over the rival actress signing up with the studio’s talent arm. But to be fair to the studio, it needs more talented actors in their roster. The existing roster was too small for a studio of its size. Studios earn handsomely for managing talent. The movie business is unpredictable. Studios need to have multiple income streams to sustain.
