Yearender 2022: From RRR to Brahmastra, the top ten grossing films of the year!
New Delhi, India – For filmmakers, the year 2022 was more of a surprise. While we saw a return to the cinemas following the long hiatus caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the box-office results stunned film analysts as films from South India and regional content dominated the charts and turned out to be massive blockbusters. As the year comes to a close, here is a list of the top ten highest-grossing Indian films-
With a worldwide collection of Rs 1228 Cr, Yash's KGF 2 became the highest grossing Indian film of 2022. The Kannada language film is a sequel to the 2018 film KGF Part 1. The film's fandom grew to the point where fans began sporting Yash-style haircuts.
RRR
With a worldwide collection of Rs 1130 Cr, Ram Charan and Jr NTR's period drama 'RRR' became the year's second highest grossing film. 'RRR,' in the style of S.S. Rajamouli, is a fictitious story about two legendary revolutionaries and their journey away from home before they began fighting for their country in the 1920s. Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn also play important roles in the film.
Ponniyin Selvan 1
This year, Mani Ratnam's magnum-opus based on Kalki's epic of the same name took third place in the box office charts. PS 1, a film made on such a grand scale, grossed Rs 500.8 Cr at the global box office. PS-1, which traced the history of the Chola empire, starred Vikram, Karthi, and Trisha Krishnan, and also marked the return of Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

With a worldwide collection of Rs 425 Cr, Kamal Haasan's high-octane drama 'Vikram' took fourth place. Vijay Sethupathi played the villain in the action-packed drama, while Fahadh Faasil played a cop.
Brahmastra
With Rs 413 Cr, Ayan Mukerjee's long-awaited film 'Brahmastra,' which finally released on September 9 this year, took fifth place. The film is the first in a planned trilogy, and it is Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's first collaboration.
Kantara
Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ turned out to be surprising blockbuster at the box office. Initially witnessing a slow start, the film took pace due to the word-of-mouth publicity and was hailed for its different and original storyline. Grabbing sixth spot, the film earned Rs 393 Cr at the box office.
Kashmir Files
Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's explosive film about the state of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley of Kashmir became a box office success early in the year. With a worldwide gross of Rs 344 Cr, the film is ranked seventh. The film, which stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, and Pallavi Joshi, has been the talk of the town since its release.
Drishyam 2
Ajay Devgn's 'Drishyam 2', a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name, re-ignited the hope that Bollywood films can create box office miracles. While the film is still in theatres, it has risen to ninth place in the box office rankings, with a worldwide gross collection of Rs 298 crore. The film has received critical acclaim for its brilliant storyline and the acting abilities of Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Akshaye Khanna.
Bhool Bhulaiyya 2
Kartik Aaryan's 'Bhool Bhulaiyya 2' served as a sort of refresher for the audience following the pandemic, and thus became an instant box office success. 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2', the sequel to the horror comedy of the same name, earned Rs 264 crore at the box office and ranked eighth. In addition to Kartik, Kiara Advani and Tabu played important roles in the film.
With a total of Rs 227 Cr, this Tamil action film starring Joseph Vijay came in 10th place at the box office this year. The film follows Veera Raghavan, an ex-RAW agent who goes on to rescue people held hostage by terrorists in a shopping mall.
