In Season 3 Poornima, grieving the loss of her son, has disappeared, leaving Ameya Gaikwad unaware of her whereabouts. He enlists the help of Inspector Wasim Khan to find her, which leads to a potential romantic angle between them. However, these scenes between Aijaz Khan and Priya Bapat are drawn out and lack clarity in their purpose. Poornima's portrayal of grief is dramatic and exaggerated, making it difficult for viewers to relate to her character. The season progresses to confirm predictions made in Season 2, revealing Ameya Gaikwad as the mastermind behind the riots that claimed Poornima's son's life.

The finale of City of Dreams Season 3 sees Poornima trapping and killing her own father, Ameya Gaikwad, following a moment of reconciliation between them. This pattern of killing off a Gaikwad family member has become somewhat of a template for the series, with each season introducing new characters and convoluted plotlines that often lose coherence. The fate of Poornima's friend and lesbian partner from Season 1 remains unclear, among other forgotten characters and unresolved storylines.

Given the increasingly complicated and forgettable nature of the show, the hope is that both director Nagesh Kukunoor and Disney+ Hotstar decide to conclude the series with Season 3. However, news of a release date for City of Dreams Season 4 in 2025 suggests that the story will continue. This raises the possibility of Poornima using Wasim Khan or vice versa, with personal motives driving their actions. Predictably, Poornima might also target Gurav next, as he had knowledge of the riots that claimed Amit's life.
