A.R Rahman openly criticised ‘Masakali 2.0’ and asked fans to enjoy the original song instead. He took to social media to express his displeasure with the latest T-Series music video starring Siddharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria. The music is by Tanishk Bagchi and sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon and A.R Rahman is credited as the original composer. The 2009 Masakali original was sung by Mohit Chauhan with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi.

The remix has got mixed reviews but A.R Rahman is not impressed with his songs being re-created. He took to Twitter sharing the link of the original song along with a note which says, ‘No short cuts, properly commissioned, sleepless nights, writes and re-writes. Over 200 musicians, 365 days of creative brainstorming with the aim to produce music that can last generations. A team of a director, a composer and a lyricists supported by actors, dance directors and a relentless film crew. Lots of love and prayers, A.R Rahman.’

He is the Oscar award-winning composer. He even took to Instagram and shared an image of a burning man to express his emotions. He wrote the captions as ‘the strongest man is who is able to control his anger.’ The Delhi-6 director, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra took the criticism a notch higher and said that the remix would damage eardrums. He wrote on Twitter, ‘Masakali Delhi-6 created with love and passion an iconic song that has to be preserved. Beware of the remix it will damage your eardrums.’

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi who heads the Central Board of Film Certification also wrote of his disappointment. A.R Rahman’s earlier popular tracks such as Urvashi, Muqabla, Humma Humma are also among others that have been remixed. While the composer hasn’t explicitly stated earlier that he is against the newer adaptations, he has never endorsed them earlier.

Masakali 2.0 has over 14 million views and is in the top five trending videos on YouTube India currently since its release on Wednesday. But also the internet tears apart Masakali 2.0 with hilarious memes and jokes. Netizens are utterly disappointed with the new version. They have expressed their dismay and ruthlessly shamed the makers for ruining the hit song. There are a lot of memes on the song all over the social media.
