Real Life Characters On Which City Of Dream Web Series Is Based On

City Of Dreams is a popular web series on Disney Hotstar & is into its third season. As per rumors, the 4th season is expected in 2025.

It is no secret that the show is inspired by some real-life characters. 

Here are the real-life characters who are the inspiration behind the hit show

1. Ameya Rao Gaikwad - Bal Thackeray

The character of Ameya Rao Gaekwad the patriarch of the Gaekwad family played by Atul Kulkarni seems to be inspired by Late Shiv Sena leader Bala "Saheb" Thackeray. Ameya Rao too is addressed as Saheb in the show & he too formed a right-wing party with an aversion to Muslims as was seen in the show. But thankfully the similarities end there. Bal Thackeray never had a daughter with an interest in politics. His sons were never accused of being tyrants like Ameya's sons either.

2. Wasim Khan - Encounter Cops

Wasim Khan played by Eijaz Khan seems to be a combination of several encounters with cops in Mumbai. But there is no single encounter cop on whom Wasim Khan is based.

3. Poornima Gaekwad - Uddhav Thackeray 

Like Uddhav Thackeray who transformed his party from a right-wing party to a liberal party. Like Uddhav Thackeray who joined hands with "Secular parties" & was known for being liberal when he was the CM, Poornima Gaekwad played by Priya Bapat too is accused of being too liberal, and secular by her right-wing party members. These traits led to Uddhav Thackeray's MLA's deserting him & are replicated in the show as well.

4. Vibha - Sonia Gandhi & Narendra Modi

Viha played by Divya Seth Shah seems to be a combination of Congress President Sonia Gandhi & PM Narendra Modi. Vibha is shown to be the leader of a party that is in power at the centre, but she chooses to not become the PM & instead installs a puppet as the PM - much like how Mrs. Sonia Gandhi did in 2004 when she appointed Manmohan Singh as the PM although she could have become the PM herself. Vibha is shown as someone who doesn't shy away from utilizing central agencies to destroy her opponents & is at war with the CM of Maharashtra - much like PM Modi. 

5. Kasturi Nath - Arnab Goswami

The character of Kasturi Nath is clearly inspired by popular news anchor Arnab Goswami. Kasturi Nath's style of news anchoring - repeating his words & not letting his guests speak are hallmarks of Arnab Goswami. The makers of the show waste no opportunity to ridicule this character - clearly shows their disdain for Arnab Goswami.
