Sonakshi Sinha Talks About Her Heeramandi Character Fareedan!!!
Sonakshi Sinha on the gender-neutral nature of her Heeramandi character, Fareedan, and why Sanjay Leela Bhansali chose to keep it subdued.
One week has passed since Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar had its Netflix debut, and fans are still buzzing about the masterpiece, which stars Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and Sharmin Segal in the key parts. In particular, Sonakshi's portrayal of the astute and nuanced Fareedan has enthralled both critics and viewers. The actor, one of Heeramandi's tawaifs, is also quietly portrayed in the series as "gender fluid," with hints of her having an intimate relationship with another woman without providing much information about her orientation.
The actress talked about Fareedan's fluid gender identification in a recent exclusive interview with News18 Showsha. She said, "First, sir (Bhansali) had told me that Fareedan is very fluid." Sonakshi made reference to the show's subtly suggestive remarks about Fareedan's sexual inclinations. Much of it did happen at that moment in time. And in a community such as Heeramandi, people talked openly about it. Ustadji is a gay man in the open. Sir desired to investigate it from several angles. Fareedan's experiences have also had an effect on her in some way.
Her character Fareedan is shown having physical contact with her maid in one of the moments, raising the possibility that they are being intimate. When she was nine years old, she was sold. Perhaps this is the reason she despises males so much. That might be the case. It's been left incredibly open. They only looked at the one scene where she is with her maid and meets Choudhary saab, a nawab. Sonakshi remarks, "It's just a very big world, and sir has touched into different aspects of it in small ways."
Sonakshi also mentioned how the renowned actress Rekha found her portrayal in the series to be "magical" at the Heeramandi screening. It was years after I attended a showing like that. In my whole career, that was one of the largest premieres I've attended.
