According to Farah Khan, her family was not interested in marrying her while she was in her 20s. Although Farah Khan was raised in a film family, she didn't grow up in a household where everything was provided for her. Farah actually had to start working at an early age in order to make ends meet, but she quickly realized that choreography was her true calling. Farah stated in a recent interview that her family was unique from many others in that they did not want her to marry before she achieved financial independence.
During a conversation with Nova IVF Fertility, Farah Khan talked about her early adult years in her 20s. The director said that he came from an unusual household and that he was brought up to be totally focused on his career. She also mentioned how her mother's fear—that is, the threat that she would force Farah out of their house if she married too young—had prevented her from considering marriage at that age.
Farah elaborated on it by saying: "I had no intention of getting married. I guess I imagined I would get married when I was 22 or something, but my family is strange. They gathered and threatened to throw you out of the house if you got married so early and didn't do anything in life. They behaved in total opposition to what typical parents would do.”
As the talk went on, Farah Khan said more about her mother's unsettling prohibition against getting married young. The choreographer underlined that before the former got married, her mother's top priority was for her to be financially independent and to accomplish something worthwhile with her life.
She continued, "I'll toss you out of the house, my mother warned. Your life must be made meaningful. Financial independence is a prerequisite for marriage.”
Farah Khan married eight years younger Shirish Kunder in 2004, claiming that no one in the film industry thought she would marry any day. It's interesting to note that, at the time, very few people believed their marriage would last a year. Farah's group of acquaintances began to joke frequently about the fact that many were positive she wouldn't stay with Shirish and would eventually be married again.
Farah Khan says she would struggle if she didn't have children with her husband Shirish Kunder. In the last part of the conversation, Farah Khan talked briefly about the challenges she had getting pregnant and how IVF helped her become pregnant. Furthermore, Farah stated that she and her husband would have most likely killed one another if they hadn't been fortunate enough to have children in their lives
She went on to say, "I think either Shirish would have killed me or I would have killed him by now if there had been no IVF. I probably would not have had children." We would have all killed each other by now since the kids are such an important part of our family.
For those who don't know, Farah began her career in the film industry with zero backing and went on to establish herself as a unique director of films like Om Shanti Om, Tees Maar Khan, and Happy New Year. She is married to Shirish Kunder and the two of them have triplets.
