It is the story of a king, Midas. He did a deed as an act of kindness for a satyr- a spirit of nature. In this act of Midas, the god of wine called Dionysus granted him a boon. Midas wanted his touch to be of gold. Dionysus tried to explain to him the shortcomings of his desire, but the king didn't listen, and he was blessed with the desire. Midas was very excited about his power and touched items to make them into gold. But when he got hungry and tried eating, all the food turned into gold and this left him starving. Seeing him suffer, his daughter went to comfort him, and she too turned into gold. Midas cried about the fact that this golden touch was not a blessing after all. The moral says that excessive greed results in one’s downfall.
