The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) announced the results of the Civil Services Exam 2021, in which 23-year-old Divya Tanwar of Haryana secured 438th rank. It was her first attempt at the UPSC CSE. Her elective subject was Hindi literature.

Divya Tanwar is a native of Nimbi, Mahendragarh, Haryana. Divya's father died in 2011 due to a heart attack, her mother cooks food at school to support the family, and the way Divya cracked the UPSC exam despite coming from a small village has earned her acclaim.

She has brought honor to the district by passing the UPSC exam on her first attempt. Divya, a Nimbi resident, comes from a simple family. She was chosen for Navodaya after completing her primary education at Manu School in the village of Nimbi.

After receiving AIR-438 in UPSC at such a young age, Divya was heavily searched on the internet. Divya prepared for the IAS exam and went to various institutes to give mock interviews with the help of YouTube and preferred books.

Divya stated that she used to study for 7 to 8 hours at first, but as the prelims and mains approached, she studied for 11 to 12 hours. Divya went on to say that she did not take any UPSC coaching and that she passed the exam solely through self-study.

After graduating from Navodaya Vidyalaya, Divya pursued a Bachelor of Science in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at Government Women's College while also studying for the UPSC exam. Divya has an older brother and two younger sisters. She comes from a low-income family. As a result, her younger brother and sister receive free education.
