Early Life and Introduction to Racing
Charles was presented to racing when he was only a child, courtesy of his father Hervé Leclerc. The father had participated in Formula 3 back in the 1980s and 1990s. Hervé, therefore, instilled his son with interest in motorsport very early in his life. The young Charles thus started karting under the instruction of his father and showed promising talent, a natural talent as it would go on to do.
He lost his father
June 2017: During the FIA Formula 2 Championship competition, where Charles was competing, his father, Hervé, passed away at the age of 54. It had been a long illness. Days before Charles had notched up his first victory, albeit in the feature race, at the Baku Formula 2 round. Charles showed immense resilience, dedicating his win to his late father, crediting his racing journey due to the great influence left by Hervé.
A Heartfelt Assurance
Knowing his father was dying, Charles shared a poignant moment with Hervé, just before he did. He said his father that he had signed a contract to race in Formula 1, which he knew was not true, to assure the old man of how much his signature meant to them. Fortunately, this dream turned out to be a reality when Charles signed with Sauber for the 2018 F1 season as he had promised to the others. A Note on Personal Losses

Charles has experienced and lost his father. In 2015, his godfather and mentor, who was also a Formula 1 driver, Jules Bianchi, died from injuries sustained during the 2014 Japanese Grand Prix. These tragedies affected Charles so intensely that they colored the way he looked at life and approached racing. He frequently referred to how these taught him more maturity and ruggedness, always leaving an emphasis that one should keep proper eyes on what matters both on and off the racetrack. Legacy and Dedication During his active career, Charles always honored the memory of his dad and godfather. This is well represented by his passion for the sport and the constant drive to perfection. On a glorious moment such as winning at Monaco Grand Prix, he confessed that in the mind he thought of his deceased father and remembered how they used to dream about such an occasion and how it came about.
Charles Leclerc's path to Formula 1 is a testament to his talent, determination, and the enduring impact of his father's guidance and support. Despite personal losses, he has continued to honor their legacy through his achievements on the track.
