Born on 9th November 1954 in Mallapur, Honnavar, Karnataka, Shankar Nagarakatte hailed from a Konkani speaking Saraswat Brahmin family. He was the third child of Sadananda Nagarakatte and Anandi Nagarakatte. Shankar had a close bond with his elder brother, Anant Nag, who was also a renowned actor.
