Dance Plus that which has been a fan favorite in India since it first came to air on Star Plus in 2015. Produced by Frames Productions and moderated by the great choreographer Remo D’Souza, the show has made a place for itself in which to present raw talent from all over the country. Each season sees three captains who head separate teams, which in turn compete to win the Dance Plus trophy. Over the years, the show has provided a stage for great performers, who in turn have seen many of them go on to become professional choreographers and social media sensations. We will look at the list of winners from Season 1 to Season 7, along with their captains and what they did after the show.

In 2015, the winner was V Company.

Captain: Dharmeshwar Yelande.

In the first season mind mind-blowing performances were given out of which V Company, a 50-member dance crew from Mumbai, stood out. Known for their amazing stunts, perfect synchronization, and large-scale formations, they set the bar very high. V Company became the first ever Dance Plus champions, which also made Dharmesh the winning captain of the season.

Season 2 Champion  Tanay Malhara (2016).

Captain: Dharmesh, who also goes by Yelande.

Genre: Present, Hip hop.

At the age of 14, Tanay Malhara took home the win as the youngest solo winner of Dance Plus. He won over the audience with his emotional stage presence and perfect performance in the contemporary dance routines. Under Dharmesh’s mentorship, he grew by leaps and bounds and displayed a maturity that defied his age. His story inspired young dancers in India.

Season 3 Champion  Bir Radha Sherpa (2017).

Captain: Punit, who also goes by Pathak.

Genre: Break dancing, Present day.

Bir Radha Sherpa from Assam, which is home to diverse dance forms, did it to win in Season 3. In terms of performance, which saw him blend in power of b-boying with the grace of contemporary styles, Bir did it all. This season also saw captain Punit Pathak’s first win, which he achieved with a great deal of innovation and discipline.

Season 4 Champion  Chetan Salunkhe (2019).

Captain: Punit, which is his last name.

Genre: Blasting off.

Chetan Salunkhe from Pune, which is what we have here, is a performer who brought to the table a very different element with his robotic popping skills. His fluidity of movement, precision, and musicality made him stand out. In a tough field of competitors, what Chetan brought in terms of originality did get him the title, which in turn gave Punit his second consecutive win.

Season 5 winner  Rupesh Bane (2020).

Captain: Dharmesh, which is also his name in a different language.

Genre: Break, Current.

From Mumbai, Rupesh Bane won over audiences with his emotive stories and large stage presence. He is known for mixing classical with free style, which in turn had the judges and the audience on the edge of their seats. Also, which is a first in three years, he brought back Dharmesh as a winning captain.

Season 6 Winners  Harsh, Sneha, and Tejas (2021).

Captain: Shakti Ray.

Genre: Trio Dance, a mix of contemporary and urban styles.

Season 6 introduced a new element, which was that of duos and trios, and in that category, Harsh, Sneha, and Tejas did very well. They had great chemistry, did very well together, were also very coordinated, and did an amazing job at choreographing. Their win saw Captain Shakti Mohan secure her first-ever title.

Season 7 Winner  Pratik Surve (2022)

Pratik Surve (2022) won Season 7. In Season 7, Pratik Surve won. Season 7, in which Pratik Surve came out on top in 2022. Note: All the above are my interpretations of what the original may have also included. The actual phrasing used in context will be confirmed only by the source material.

Captain: Shakti Ray.

Genre: Present, Lyrical Hip-Hop.

Pratik Surve from Mumbai, who is a dancer, was the talk of the town for his very expressive storytelling and technical skills. In a mix of contemporary and lyrical hip hop, he did it again and which left the audience in awe. His win also meant that Captain Shakti had put out back-to-back wins, which in turn made her the topmost mentor.

Dance Plus has been a platform that has been home to the very best of dancers from the small towns and from the large cities, too. Each year, we have seen the presenters break out of the box in terms of what they put on stage. From the young solo talent to large-scale crews, the winners of the first seven seasons are the lifeblood of Indian dance’s dynamic and changing culture. As fans look forward to the next go-around, the legacy of these champions is what continues to fuel the dreams of thousands of would-be dancers across the country.
