Gadar 2, starring Sunny Deol, became a huge hit and made over Rs 500 crore in total revenue globally. The actor talked on how his relationship with the younger audience has been greatly aided by the film's popularity.

The actor Sunny Deol feels that his most recent film, Gadar 2, has made it easier for him to connect with younger viewers, who are now starting to look through his earlier work.

The August release of the Anil Sharma-helmed film proved to be a surprise hit of the year, generating over Rs 500 crore at the global box office. Its predecessor, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, became the highest grossing Hindi film of 2001.

"With 'Gadar 2', everything that happened was that everyone who was a fan of mine and who desired to watch the same type of film that they had seen in 'Gadar'... People came to see the character, who is deeply ingrained in their hearts, because we maintained the story in that manner. However, what made it so beautiful was how the younger generation connected with me. I was not related to them anyhow. In an interview, Deol said, "They saw what I'm doing (in 'Gadar 2') and are now seeing some of my older films."

In Gadar 2, which takes place some years after the events of the first film, the 66-year-old actor played Tara Singh once more. During the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971, it saw Tara Singh travel back to Pakistan to save his imprisoned son, Charanjeet "Jeete" Singh (played by Utkarsh Sharma).

Before the movie's premiere, Deol claimed that critics and members of the business felt the movie wouldn't be successful at the box office. "Instead of knowing the audience's sentiment, we would know the industry's sentiment. The attitude in the industry was not pleasant, he claimed. "People were making predictions, critics were criticising the film, and even others were criticising it," he said.

However, the audience is receptive to a wide range of films, including his own, Bobby Deol's Animal, which starred his younger brother, or Rocky aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which starred his father Dharmendra in a major part.
