Bali is still the go-to destination in Asia, which seems to attract visitors all year round to its mix of beaches, culture and wellness options. There is also a report of growth in interest for the island’s inner as well as its coastal areas, which is a sign of the wide-scale appeal and that we are seeing a steady tourism recovery.
Data from the BPS-Statistics Indonesia report that in March 2025, Bali had 470,851 international visitors, which is a 4.47 per cent increase from the prior month. We saw an average hotel occupancy of 46.61 per cent in star-rated hotels and 35.71 per cent in non-star accommodations, which is an indication of stable demand across all segments. What you choose in terms of area is key, as each part of the island has a different feel, from surf beaches and resort bays to calm jungle and culture.

What is the top area to stay in Bali?
Surfing and cafes, temples and rice fields or peaceful seas at sunset. Most travellers pick 2 to 3 bases, which in turn provide the full experience of what the island has to offer.
Top areas which still see high travel numbers include:
Seminyak
Canggu
Ubud
Uluwatu
Jimbaran
Nusa Dua
Sanur
Each has a different pace, price point, and style of stay, which range from budget guesthouses to luxury villas and beach resorts.

Luxury: Beachfront villas and five-star resorts which feature infinity pools, spa facilities, and concierge service; we offer the best in privacy, sea views and premium comfort.
Infrastructure
Excellent amenities at Seminyak Village and Square, which have everything from shopping to banks and clinics within walking distance. Also, we see a great deal of taxi and ride-sharing app (Grab, Gojek) use, which in turn makes this area in Bali very connected and easy to get around.
Prices
Higher in other areas due to premium placement, but in the shoulder season (April, June and September, October) we see great deals on villas, spa packages, and dining.
Pros: Plus:
Walkability: Easy to wander through boutiques, cafes, spas, and beaches.
Dining and entertainment: A wide range of restaurants and bars, as well as beach clubs.
Beach access: Long beaches are ideal for sunsets and morning walks.
Premium services: Top-rated villas, dedicated staff, and luxury wellness.
Cons: Dis:
Traffic: Frequent traffic in Oberoi and Petitenget.
Noise: Nightlife in the downtown and beach areas.
Parking: In the central areas, parking is at a premium.
Crowds: At the height of Double Six and Eat Street.
Tip: Choose lodging on the quieter streets near Oberoi and Petitenget to be close to restaurants and the beach, yet still get that peace out of the main crowds.
Canggu
Canggu is a dynamic coastal district in Bali that has it all: modern comfort and traditional charm. Here you’ll find yourself from sunrise at the surf beach to late afternoon in the co-working spaces and into the night at the beach clubs. The area is a mecca for boutique shopping, fusion cafes, and wellness, which in turn has drawn in a worldwide community that extends their stay from months to years.
Best for
Digital nomads that require strong Wi-Fi and shared workspaces, surfers that go for the daily waves, café goers that are into Bali’s brunch scene, active couples that do yoga and fitness, and younger travellers that seek a balance between leisure and productivity.
Vibe & highlights
A modern centre point that has transformed a bohemian surf town, which includes Batu Bolong, Berawa, and Echo Beach. We see in this a mix of co-working spaces, speciality coffee, gyms, yoga studios, and sunset spots, which present a blend of relaxation and creativity.

Infrastructure
In the case of Outpost and Tropical Nomad, which are the coworking hubs, and at large Pepito and Frestive, which are the supermarkets, we also have the clinics, pharmacies, and very efficient ride-hailing services (Grab, Gojek). Also, during rush hour, traffic is heavy.
Prices
From June to August out a little higher, and in late December, we see higher prices. Also note that rental prices for villas do change based on size and location, but those for coworking and gym are fairly steady.
Pros:
Community: Diverse international community of markets and creative meetups.
Internet: Strong in cafes, villas and coworking hubs.
Lifestyle: Thriving in the café, fitness, and yoga scenes as well as on the beaches, which are very much for surfing.
Beach access: Quick access to Berawa, Echo, and Batu Bolong for surfing and sunsets.
Cons: Drawbacks:
Traffic: At the main junctions of Batu Bolong and Berawa.
Construction: New developments in the form of villas and cafés produce, at times, noise and dust.
Infrastructure: In narrow streets and at a loss for parking.
Pricing: Higher prices during peak season.
Tip: Request to do a live Wi-Fi speed test and also get info on generators prior to booking. For a quiet stay, try villas which are off the main roads or in Pererenan for peace, which still has easy access to Canggu’s core.
Ubud
Ubud is the centre of culture and spirit in Bali, surrounded by rice terraces, rainforest valleys, and ancient temples. It is the island’s focus for wellness, art, and slow living, which includes daily yoga, health-conscious dining, and creativity. With a cooler climate and peaceful pace of life, Ubud draws in long-term travelers who seek inspiration and balance.
Best for
Wellness-focused individuals, yoga aficionados, people interested in local culture as it is experienced in temples and through art and tradition, creatives in search of fuel for their work in natural settings, travelers who enjoy cooler evenings, and those who prefer to stay longer for a more thoughtful vacation.
Vibe & highlights
A peaceful escape to the highlands, which has art galleries, temples, and jungle valleys as neighbours. The air is of a quiet and reflective nature, which in turn is perfect for people who prefer yoga studios, spa retreats, and organic food to late-night entertainment.
Accommodation options: Accommodation choices:
Budget: Central in location for those staying at Monkey Forest or on Hanuman Street, we have guesthouses that include breakfast and are within a short walking distance to cafés and shops.
Mid-range: Boutique rainforest edge resorts which provide shuttle services, spa programs, and open-air dining with great views.
Luxury: Riverbank villas and eco lodges which have infinity pools, yoga decks, and in-villa treatments that combine comfort with nature.
Infrastructure
Ubud has yoga studios, local markets, wellness centres, and clinics in the city centre. During peak hours, the roads do get congested, but most points of interest are very close together, which makes for convenient walking or short scooter rides.
Prices
Excellent choice if you are looking to get away from the main tourist areas, which tend to be more expensive. We also see that accommodation and dining are very affordable in places like Penestanan, Nyuh Kuning, and Sayan. Also, you will find that in off-peak tourist months, you get even better deals.
Pros: Plus:
Nature: Surrounding yourself with rice paddies, rivers, and tropical forests.
Culture: Rich artistic and spiritual tradition, which includes temples, dance performances, and workshops.
Focus: Peaceful beat perfect for writing, yoga, or creative projects.
Climate: Cooler nights and crisp mountain air, which is a change from the coast.
Cons: Drawbacks:
Humidity: During rainy seasons and in some villas, which require them.
Nightlife: Minimal entertainment choices, with most places shutting down early.
Transport: Narrow streets and a loss for parking during peak times.
Connectivity: In remote jungle areas, the Internet may be unstable.
Tip: Request that hosts provide day and night audio samples and that the villa is equipped with dehumidifiers. Also, if working from home, confirm that you have a private, air-conditioned space for your comfort and focus. As interest turns to Ubud villa rentals, we recommend using the trusted online services. Betterplace Bali, for example, which provides verified listings and in-depth property info in Bali’s cultural heart.
Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is the premier resort area in Bali, a quiet and secure area that is very well maintained along the southeast coast. It is home to long promenades, formal gardens, and lagoon-style beaches, also very family-friendly and for those who prefer a peaceful, comfortable and high-end service in a contained environment.
Best for
Families that travel with kids, couples who prefer quiet beaches, travelers who go for resort convenience, and guests who seek accessible luxury away from the crowds.
Vibe & highlights
A gated resort area that has wide, clean walkways, still blue water, and world-class hotels along the beach. This area has a very tranquil feel to it, has landscaped parks, and also great cycling paths, which are scenic, very much a great place for relaxing holidays, which also include quality family time.
Accommodation options: Staying options.
Budget: In-town guest accommodations that have great taxi access to the beaches and shopping centres.
Mid-range: Beachfront hotels that feature family pools, kids’ clubs, and promenade access.
Luxury: Luxury 5-star resorts which have private beaches, full-service spas, many dining options, and the best in hospitality.
Infrastructure
Excellent in terms of infrastructure, which includes world-class hospitals, grocery stores, and ready taxi services. Traffic is not an issue on our roads, as they are wide and very well-maintained in contrast to the busier areas in Bali.
Prices
Premium rates for the front row at the beach, but as you move a block inland, the value improves. We see that package deals often include meals and activities.
Pros:
Safety: Securely gated community which has 24-hour patrol and well-lit streets.
Cleanliness: Pristine public areas and well-kept beaches.
Family appeal: Quiet waters, lifeguards, and activities for kids.
Comfort: High-quality service and seamless logistics for short-term stays.
Cons: Disadvantages:
Nightlife: Limited evening activities at the hotel.
Cafés: Fewer independent cafés or local-style warungs.
Atmosphere: Seems more touristy than an authentic Balinese town.
Mobility: Other areas’ distance, which requires longer drive times for sightseeing.
Tip: At the time of booking, confirm the exact distance in meters and also check that pools have areas that are safe for young children or that are shaded.
Sanur
Sanur is the place that began Balinese seaside getaways, a peaceful coastal town that puts local charm right at your door with the ease of island living at your fingertips. It’s that flat beachfront path, those calm waters, and leafy streets, which in turn put it on the map for families, mature travellers, and those who prefer a more laid-back coastal life. At sunrise, Sanur presents that perfect blend of comfort, culture and convenience.
Best for
Families with older children (50+, long beach walks, peaceful swimming, and early morning ferries to the Nusa islands.
Vibe & highlights
A quiet shore which has a wide boardwalk that goes for what seems like miles, lined with palm trees and which also features beach cafes. The town puts out a welcome that is very local in feel; it has calm waters and is also an easy access point to the harbor for day trips or island hopping.
Accommodation options:
Budget: Homestays and small hotels by Segara or Sanur Beach, which usually include breakfast and are a short walk away.
Mid-range: Garden-style resorts which also offer large apartments to go along with on-site pools and free bicycles.
Luxury: Elegant beachside suites which offer quiet comfort, wellness programs, and ocean view dining.
Infrastructure
Well, in many places you will find that we have done a great job at including what you may need, which means there are clinics, pharmacies, and supermarkets at your disposal and also reliable taxi or ride-hailing services. As for the roads, they are not very busy, and also the majority of the attractions are very much within biking or walking distance.
Prices
Generally more toned down than Seminyak and Canggu, we also see great off-season deals, and we are very affordable for families and long-term guests.
Pros:
Peace: Peaceful evenings and serene mornings by the sea.
Value: Affordable lodging and food in comparison to southern resorts.
Swimming: Calm and shallow water is what we are looking for in this case of children and older travelers.
Convenience: Close to Sanur Port, which is convenient for boat travel to Nusa Penida and Lembongan.
Cons:
Nightlife: Reduced bars and late-night venues.
Coworking: A few dedicated coworking spaces for digital nomads.
Energy: Slower tempo, which may be too mellow for younger guests.
Beaches: Less of a dramatic setting than at Uluwatu, which is by the cliffs.
Tip: If going to visit the US islands, pack to stay by the port for easy early check-out. Put on your reef shoes for the shallow water walks and enjoy sunrise photos along the boardwalk.
Uluwatu (Bukit)
Uluwatu, which sits in Bali’s Bukit Peninsula, is the archetypal dramatic coast of the island: a scenery of high limestone cliffs, bright blue bays, and spectacular sunsets. What was once a secret spot for surfers has turned out to be a class of its own with the best waves in the world, luxury accommodation and fancy cliff-top villas.
Best for
Surfers after that perfect wave, honeymooners for seclusion and romance, sunset pedestrians and travelers who found in us a peaceful setting.
Vibe & highlights
A coastal film set which is framed by limestone cliffs, rolling surf, and world-famous sunsets over the Indian Ocean. This includes Bingin, Padang Padang, and the Uluwatu temple headland, a mix of easy-going surf scene and refined boutique living. We see yoga studios, ocean view cafes, and scenic bars perched above the waves.
Accommodation options: Accommodation choices:
Budget: Surf houses and guesthouses right by the beach access, which often have shared terraces, board rooms and easy access to waves.
Mid-range: Boutique hotels which have terraces, yoga lawns, open-air lounges, and small spas, perfect for couples and solo travellers.
Luxury: Cliff-top villas that come with infinity pools, private butlers, panoramic decks, and are designed for events like weddings or retreats.
Infrastructure
In Labuan Sait, Bingin, and Padang Padang, which are the main areas, we have a lot of cafes, beach bars and rental scooters. Also, due to steep hills, many points of interest are far apart; most travellers use scooters or private drivers to get around.
Prices
Cliff-top views are at a premium, particularly at the villas and hotels that look out to the sea. In the inland areas and at Bingin, we do see better value options, which at the same time are very near the beach.
Pros: Advantages:
Scenery: Dramatic ocean vistas and raised sunset decks.
Beaches: Less populated beaches in that part of the island, as compared to southern Bali.
Atmosphere: Quiet nights which have little to no traffic and the sound of the waves.
Surfing: Access to the best spots in Bali, which include Uluwatu, Padang Padang and Bingin.
Cons: Drawbacks:
Terrain: Steep inclines and many stairs to get to the beaches or villas.
Accessibility: A diverse set of points of interest that require private transport.
Facilities: In urban areas, we see a greater density of supermarkets and clinics.
Water supply: Cliffside properties at peak use.
Tip: Verify the number of steps to the beach, lift access, and water pressure before you book. Also, check that your villa has backup water tanks and generators for comfort, which are guaranteed during longer stays.
Jimbaran
Jimbaran is a tranquil coastal bay in the south of the airport in Bali, a very peaceful area which is known for its still waters, golden sand, and great beachside restaurants. It has leafy streets, family-oriented resorts and easy access to the south, which in turn balances out comfort, authenticity and convenience.
Best for
Families with young children, travelers who love seafood and sunsets, and guests looking for relaxing pre- or post-flight stays.
Vibe & highlights
A bay that is protected and very gentle on the waves, open-air seafood restaurants along the beach, and a very laid-back local vibe. At Jimbaran, you’ll get quiet nights and scenic sunsets; also, it’s very close to the airport, which is great for those who want a smooth start or end to their time in Bali.
Accommodation options: Shelter options:
Budget: Hostels and small apartments by the bay, which provide easy access to the beach and breakfast.
Mid-range: Family-oriented villas which have private gardens, lawns, and shallow entry pools for kids.
Luxury: Ocean-side residences and boutique resorts which also feature rooftop gazebos, private chefs, and large tropical gardens.
Infrastructure
Excellent features of the property include the Samasta Village shopping complex, local supermarkets, pharmacies and easy access to taxis or private drivers. In Jimbaran, traffic is light, and the roads are very smooth, which is a plus in comparison to other southern areas.
Prices
Moderate as a whole, we do see that beachfront villas and resorts by the main bay have higher prices. For properties in the interior and those with hill views, we see better value.
Pros: Advantages:
Swimming: Safe and tranquil waters are for kids and beginners.
Peace: Peaceful atmosphere and tranquil nights.
Space: Luxe villas and large gardens ideal for families and groups.
Location: Nearby 15 minute drive from the airport.
Cons: Pro:
Nightlife: At the beach, there is only what we have to put up with in terms of entertainment.
Cafés: In some areas, there are less trendy spots, which is the case in comparison to Canggu or Seminyak.
Hills: Some have stairs and slopes.
Atmosphere: Slower tempo, which may be too quiet for solo travellers.
Tip: For parents with young children, we recommend bay-level rooms instead of hilltop villas, which may have many stairs. Also, book your table for dinner early, which has the best view at sunset.
Which is also true of Bali?
Kerobokan and Pererenan, Tumbak Bayuh, and in the north (Lovina and Amed) are growing to become destinations that present a quiet atmosphere, modern villa options and natural beauty away from the south’s busyness.
Kerobokan & Pererenan
In quieter options near Seminyak and Canggu, you’ll find rice field paths, contemporary villas, and less of a crowd. Great for guests who prefer privacy, which we balance with proximity to cafes and the beach.
Tumbak Bayuh
A peaceful out-of-the-way place just a few minutes from Pererenan, which has very private settings, wider roads, modern villas and wellness retreats. We are suited for long-term stays and digital nomads.
North Bali (Lovina & Amed)
Peaceful coastal areas with black sand beaches, natural hot springs, coral diving sites, and wellness resorts in a very natural setting. For those who like slow and scenic getaways away from the south.
What to check before booking?
Check your internet speed, power backup, and water pressure. Also ask for noise levels, recent photos, and info on the pool or parking. Before you book, check all costs, deposits, and refund policies.
Internet: Request a speed test video. We are to go for a stable 50 Mbps+ if possible.
Power & water: Check generator, stock tank, and water pressure.
Noise: Request short day/night audio in the yard for traffic, clubs, ceremonies, or roosters.
Neighbors/works: Request late perimeter photos to see construction.
Pool & parking: Check depth, child safety features, and vehicle space.
Money: Clarify tax policies, deposit requirements, refund rules, and electricity costs for monthly stays.
Conclusion
Bali has it all for each type of traveller. In Seminyak and Canggu, we see a mix of style and energy, which comes with cafés, beaches, and modern villas. In Ubud, you will find peace, culture, and green settings for a more reflective stay. For families, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua and Sanur present a safe and comfortable environment; also, in Uluwatu, we see a private retreat by the sea, which is ideal for surfers and honeymooners. Also on the rise are Pererenan, Tumbak Bayuh, and North Bali, which we can say are very peaceful and give you more space away from the main tourist areas. The area you choose in Bali will, in turn, match its atmosphere to your travel style and thus create the experience you are looking for.
